THE POSITION

Boehringer Ingelheim RCV Vienna is home to Boehringer Ingelheim’s dedicated drug discovery center for innovative cancer medicines. A team of more than 200 scientists from various functions collectively drives our efforts to identify novel medication for the treatment of cancer. In the global department of Oncology Translational Science, we are currently looking for a motivated and patient-oriented translational Scientist to lead a team of Principle Scientists and Laboratory Scientists as an Associate Scientific Director. This group is specialized in translational research, biomarker discovery and pre-clinical development of tumor-targeted therapies to increase the success rate and speed in translation from discovery research to the clinics.


Tasks & responsibilities
  • Set directions in the field of translational research for drug discovery projects to support development and clinical translation of first-in-class drug candidates with breakthrough potential
  • Manage a group of approximately 10 people (including Principal Scientists and Laboratory Scientists) performing molecular and cellular characterization of cancer models and patient-derived samples with a strong focus on translational aspects in the field of cancer cell signalling (particularly the KRAS pathway)
  • Show scientific leadership for translational aspects of drug discovery projects, such as patient selection, pharmacodynamic and disease-modulation biomarkers, with an understanding of PK/PD modelling in oncology
  • Establish and manage external collaborations with academic partners and CROs, including evaluation of new technologies
  • Assume responsibility in a global department and contribute to our strong Team Science Culture by building on the strength of the colleagues while contributing own scientific insights

Requirements
  • PhD or MD, with postdoctoral training and research experience in the field of cancer cell-directed therapy and a strong publication record
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, excellent team-player  
  • 5 years R&D experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally in translational research
  • Strong leadership skills of scientific teams 
  • Excellent organization and communication skills

We offer an attractive salary package in line with your qualification, experience and individual competencies. The base pay is composed of a market oriented excess payment and the respective amount according to the Austrian collective agreement (at least € 75,000 gross per year/full-time).
