The tasks of the Monetary Policy Section (Referat Geldpolitik) are to provide policy advice to senior management and to conduct applied research. The former includes providing support in the form of monetary policy briefings for the meetings of the ECB Governing Council as well as various ad-hoc requests on monetary and inflation related issues. On the basis of the latest findings in economic theory and its empirical methods, as well as our own research, we monitor, analyze and research monetary and inflation policy issues.
The Monetary Policy Section offers two internships to interested students for a duration of 4-6 months (full or part-time starting from January 1, 2025, July 2025 or September, 2025

Your tasks
- Carry out assignments in support of current analysis, research, and modeling efforts associated with topics in monetary policy and inflation.
- Assist in the development and improvement of data analysis tools mainly in the software R.
- Assist in writing scientific papers on the subject area including data preparation, literature research, and visualization of results.
- Assist in creating briefing materials and ad hoc reports for top management as well as preparation and processing of data.
Your Background
- You have an education in one of the following fields: (Quantitative) Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, or Finance.
- You have an interest in monetary policy and inflation as well as ideally first experiences in the field of monetary economics and inflation.
- You are proficient in relevant state-of-the-art software packages (R, MATLAB, EViews, Stata, , Python, etc. - preferably R and RShiny) and are skilled in using MS-Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- You have experience or an interest in empirical work that requires the handling of complex data sets (e.g. with publicly available data from Eurostat, ECB, …)
- You are willing to collaborate with and support other team members in the achievement of common goals and to build open and trusting relationships within and across teams.
- You have excellent presentation and communication skills.
- You possess very good English language skills (German is an asset but not required).
