Deep down you feel that you need to do something that matters. Something that makes your heart race. Something that is ambitious and hard and that gives you the feeling of fulfilment once achieved. You want to be part of a team that values the skill as much as the art, the hand as much as the heart, and the past as much as the future. You want to find out if you have what it takes to become a successful glue hunter. There is no better time than now.

(Senior) Research Associate

We’re looking for a driven and curious Research Associate to join our growing team of glue hunters! In this hands-on role, you’ll play a key part in advancing some of our most exciting research projects – designing and running wet-lab experiments that push the boundaries of innovation.

From planning and executing experiments to mammalian cell culture, assay development, and compound screening, you’ll be at the heart of our discovery efforts. We’re searching for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

If you’re excited by the idea of contributing to a high-growth biotech startup where your work truly matters, we’d love to hear from you!

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the life sciences
  • Hands-on laboratory experience is essential, particularly in mammalian cell culture, cloning, and western blotting
  • Proficiency with MS Office and a willingness to learn new software tools
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A collaborative mindset, positive attitude, and commitment to teamwork
  • Experience with HiBiT assays, immunofluorescent staining, gene transduction, Echo or Janus systems, high-content microscopy, or background in targeted protein degradation is considered a plus
  • Two to three years of relevant experience is a plus, but not required

WHAT YOUR MAIN TASKS WILL BE

  • Plan and perform compound validation experiments, with primary focus on cell-based assays (e.g. HiBiT, viability, alphaLISA assays, and immunofluorescent staining) as well as relevant biochemical techniques
  • Culture, maintain and engineer mammalian cell lines using a variety of methods, along with execution of cellular assays
  • Manage internal compound handling and logistics, and provide support related laboratory workflows
  • Maintain clear, detailed, and accurate laboratory documentation in line with internal standards; analyze experimental data and present results in internal meetings
  • Develop, refine, and troubleshoot assays, including the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure proper use, routine maintenance, and calibration of laboratory instruments

What we offer

At Proxygen, we harness the most advanced technologies and expertise to push the boundaries of what can be treated. Traditional drugs work by blocking a specific function of disease-causing proteins, yet more than 80% of human proteins remain out of reach for this approach, labeled as “undruggable.”

What sets Proxygen apart is our focus on a different kind of therapeutic: molecular glue degraders. These revolutionary compounds have the potential to address diseases that have long been considered beyond the reach of conventional treatments.

Born from one of Europe’s leading research institutions, our commitment to excellence drives everything we do. Though we are proudly Viennese, our diverse team hails from around the world, all united by a common goal: to redefine what is possible in the realm of drug discovery.

  • Collaborate with a young, dynamic, and highly international team that values diversity and camaraderie. Enjoy a lively workplace culture with regular company events and team-building activities.
  • Have a direct impact on the company’s success and growth. Engage in high-level decision-making and strategic initiatives across all areas of the business, empowering you to make meaningful contributions.
  • Work in a new lab and office space and benefit from a convenient location with easy access to Vienna’s public transport, plus a variety of nearby amenities, including supermarkets, food trucks, and more.
  • Our performance-based bonus system and supportive organizational structure ensure that you have the resources and opportunities to grow beyond your role.
