Term of the employment relationship: 1st of March 2026, limited to a period of 6 years

Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 4,932.90

Target group
§99 (5) positions offer academics with high potential and the relevant achievements the opportunity of an academic carrier ranging from a postdoc position to that of assistant professor and on to associated professor. The position of associated professor can be achieved at the latest six years after the appointment. §99 (5) positions are aimed at academics with a doctorate/PhD degree, with high potential, who are close to or have already successfully completed a habilitation. Experience at other universities or research institutes abroad is expressly welcome.
Tasks and focus areas
- Research in the field of Landscape Construction with a focus on Sustainability in Landscape Construction Techniques (LCT). Landscaping is concerned with construction techniques of open spaces and green areas and the materials required for them. New concepts and sustainable techniques and processes must be promoted that emphasise the use of natural materials (wood, stone), resource conservation and recyclability. Alternative, resilient pavings and engineered, retentive substrates for green-blue rainwater management solutions and unsealing strategies are key on the climate change adaptation of open space designs
- Research in permeable paving and sealing alternatives, engineered substrates, Circular Soil and climate change adaptation in LCT
- Teaching and supervision or co-supervision of final papers within the scope of legal possibilities
- Transfer of knowledge and the promotion of junior researchers in line with the social responsibility of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences
- Assumption of administrative tasks within the framework of university self-administration
- Acquisition and management of competitively funded national and international research projects
- Conception and implementation of lab and field tests
- Qualification for a habilitation and international peer-review publication
- Planning and conducting of an international scientific stay
- Establishment of a working group for Sustainable Landscape Construction Techniques
- Establishment of a national and international network for LCT
Requirement profile
- Completed doctorate in a relevant field
- Sound professional experience in the scientific field as a postdoc
- Excellent publication achievements as well as international orientation and recognition
- Willingness and ability to lead your own research team incl. the necessary funding this requires (third-party funding)
- Enthusiasm for outstanding teaching
- Excellent written and spoken German and English or willingness to learn German in the first two years
- Profound expertise and scientific project experience in sustainable landscape construction techniques (LCT), processes and materialities
- Experience in establishment and valuation of research methods and processes for engineered soil development, green-blue rain water management solutions for climate change adaptation
- Knowledge in circularity and recycling in landscape construction techniques, urban mining and circular soil, LCA for LCT
- National and international experience in project management and coordination
- Profound knowledge of lab technologies, geotechnical and hydrological testing procedures
- Experience in analytical research, lab and field test setups, sensor-based monitoring, use of simulation and modelling software
Other desired qualifications
- Experience abroad as well as in teaching and leadership at universities and research institutions
- Management and personnel management skills including skills in the areas of gender and diversity management, as well as inclusion and accessibility in communication
- Academic teaching experience in LCT
- Strong team work skills and ability to tead and motivate young scientists and students
- Inter- and transdisciplinary work attitude
- Strong analytical ability and ability to comprehend and integrate complex contexts and systemic processes
