At the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer, in the Research Unit E322-02, TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant post-doc (all genders) limited to expected 6 years (40 hours/week). Expected start: May 2026.
The research of the group focuses on the study of fundamental phenomena in complex and/or turbulent flows and fluid-structure interaction. A broad number of applications are considered such as the aerodynamics of small flyers and unmanned aerial vehicles, particle-laden flows, cardiovascular flows, etc.
Tasks:
- Perform independent research and take a leading role in one of the areas of interest to the group
- Participate in the teaching activities of the group and in the supervision of students
- Manage the wind tunnel and take a leading role in the operation and management of the lab
- Perform project work and coordinate project teams
- Contribute to the acquisition of third-party funding
- Publish scientific articles and present results at international conferences and workshops
- Participate in organisational and administrative tasks of the research division
Your profile:
Essential:
- A PhD degree (or equivalent) in fluid mechanics, mechanical or aerospace engineering or related field
- Strong motivation and a profound knowledge of experimental fluid mechanics and measurement techniques such as PIV, PTV, hot wire anemometry, temperature, density, concentration measurements or other advanced optical techniques
- Demonstrable experience in the design, management and operation of experimental facilities, preferably wind tunnels
- A good track of publications in the best journals of the field
- Organizational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working
- Excellent command of English, with strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
- Teaching experience in fields related to the position
- Experience supervising undergraduate students

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 5,014.30/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
