Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 4,932.90

Target group
§99 (5) positions offer academics with high potential and the relevant achievements the opportunity of an academic carrier ranging from a postdoc position to that of assistant professor and on to associated professor. The position of associated professor can be achieved at the latest six years after the appointment. §99 (5) positions are aimed at academics with a doctorate/PhD degree, with high potential, who are close to or have already successfully completed a habilitation. Experience at other universities or research institutes abroad is expressly welcome.
Tasks and focus areas
- Research in the field of bioprocess science and engineering with a focus on bionanoparticle processing
- Processing of research questions in the BOKU competence field Biotechnology
- Publication in high-quality journals in the field of bioprocess sciences
- Application and further development of synthetic biology methods at the interface of metabolic modeling and engineering as well as bioprocess engineering
- Teaching in the fields of bioprocess sciences and engineering
- Supervision or co-supervision of final theses within the scope of legal possibilities
- Transfer of knowledge and promotion of young scientists in line with the social responsibility of BOKU University
- Taking over administrative activities within the framework of university self
- Assumption of administrative tasks within the framework of university self-administration
- Acquisition and management of national and international research projects
- Participation in cross-departmental focus areas
Requirement profile
- Completed doctorate in a relevant field, e.g. Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or similar
- Professional expertise in at least two of the following four subject areas:
- Upstream processing of bionanoparticles (BNPs): Cell culture, fermentation (bacteria, yeast, insect, mammalian of plant cells) or similar (e.g. production in intact organisms)
- Downstream processing of BNPs: Chromatography, membrane filtration, precipitation, ultracentrifugation or similar
- Biophysical & biochemical characterization of BNPs such as: light scattering techniques e.g. DLS, NTA, MALS, Mass photometry; SAXS, SPR, electron and light microscopy or similar
- Process and product modelling for development, characterization and control of BNP production
Other desired qualifications
- Experience abroad as well as in teaching and leadership experience at universities and research institutions
- High willingness for scientific cooperation within and outside the university
- Experience in acquiring, managing and executing research projects
- Management and personnel management skills including skills in the areas of gender and diversity management, as well as inclusion and accessibility in communication
- Additional skills and competencies in regulatory knowledge such as GMP, FDA/EMA guidelines for biologics & nanomedicines are appreciated
