The following positions will be filled in the Software Engineering Research Group at the Department of Informatics Systems at the Faculty of Technical Sciences with an anticipated starting date of August 1, 2026:

The Software Engineering Research Group (SERG) researches and teaches theories, methods, processes, and techniques for building and evolving large, complex, and long-living software systems. SERG has a strong track record for research in mining software repositories, AI for software engineering, program analysis, software testing, change and change impact analysis, build analysis, and build repair. The members of SERG work in a committed, collegial, and international team at the University of Klagenfurt and cooperate with national and international partners from science and industry.

Your responsibilities – what awaits you:

  • Independent research with the goal of completing a Doctoral programme in Informatics
  • Participation in research and teaching activities of the department
  • Independent delivery of courses
  • Supervision of students
  • Participation in organisational and administrative tasks and in quality assurance measures
  • Participation in public relations activities of the Faculty of Technical Sciences

Your profile and requirements:

  • Completed Master's or Diploma degree in Computer Science or related fields at a domestic or foreign university. This requirement has an extended deadline and must be fulfilled two weeks before the starting date at the latest; hence, the latest possible deadline for meeting this requirement is July 15, 2026
  • Proven knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas: Software Testing, Program Analysis, AI for Software Engineering, Mining Software Repositories
  • Proven advanced programming skills in at least one of the following languages/tools: Java, Python, C/C++, C#
  • English language skills (written and spoken)

This distinguishes you additionally:

  • Good scientific communication and presentation skills
  • Social skills and ability to work in heterogeneous teams
  • First scientific publication (apart from Master's or Diploma thesis)
  • Practical experience

These positions are intended for the professional and academic training of graduates of a Master's or Diploma programme with the aim of completing a Doctoral programme in Informatics. Applications from individuals who already hold a relevant doctorate or Ph.D. can therefore not be considered.
