The position
At Boehringer Ingelheim, we work across the full R&D spectrum to develop innovative therapies that improve patients’ lives. As part of a growing Computational Oncology team
(@computationalinnovation), you will play a key role in identifying and validating novel therapeutic targets. You will integrate multimodal oncology data and apply advanced computational methods to generate insights and support early-stage drug discovery.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Design and implement innovative, robust computational and ML/AI workflows to support oncology target discovery and expand data-driven in-house capabilities.
- Lead internal and external scientific collaborations, positioning novel targets within defined patient cohorts and proposing clear validation strategies.
- Demonstrate strong project leadership by proactively driving computational workstreams across early oncology programs and delivering reliable, timely outcomes.
- Foster effective cross-functional collaboration across computational, biology, clinical, and chemistry teams to strengthen portfolio entry proposals.
- Communicate complex scientific insights clearly through well-structured analyses, visualizations, and presentations, enabling informed decision-making across diverse audiences.
Requirements
- PhD (or equivalent) in computational biology, bioinformatics, cancer biology, medicine, or a related quantitative life science discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in oncology-focused research within biotech or pharmaceutical environments.
- Strong expertise in modern computational data analysis methods, particularly in target discovery.
- Proficient programming skills in Python or R, with experience in version control tools (e.g., Git) in collaborative environments.
- Proven ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex scientific findings.

The remuneration for this position starts at EUR 81,810 gross annual target salary per year (full time). The actual salary package depends on professional experience and qualifications. We will be happy to discuss further details in person.
